Norris P2 FP2 satisfied with McLaren Abu Dhabi GP 2023

Norris happy after ‘messy’ FP2 in Abu Dhabi: ‘Car was quite quick’

Lando Norris was satisfied following FP2 at the Yas Marina Circuit. After driving in only one session today, which was also delayed by two red flags, the Briton finished in second place only behind Charles Leclerc.

"It was decent. Messy, of course, just not many laps today, I think like five push laps in total, so not the Friday that I would want, especially just from an FP2 perspective and trying to make up laps on everyone, and it just felt like I lost even more," Norris told GPblog among others following the second session of the day.

However, even though he did not get to drive many laps, the McLaren driver still feels happy. "I got comfortable and confident very quickly, which is always important on a day when you miss FP1. But yeah, I got confident quickly and with a good push on it, the car was performing pretty well. A few things to look into, but otherwise, a decent day."

'Close qualifying' in Abu Dhabi

Norris also thinks it will be an interesting qualifying session tomorrow. "I think it's just very close, it's going to be very close here tomorrow in qualifying. So one or two-tenths, it's easily five, six positions come tomorrow afternoon. So it's not that you feel first or last today, I don't think it really matters, but it's trying to find the little things tonight that can make a big difference come tomorrow."

Norris also has plans for FP3: "We're more comfortable and confident than we were in Vegas and a few other races. But not many high fuel and long run laps today, obviously zero, so I'm a little bit behind from a long run perspective, but maybe I can make up for that tomorrow."
