Verstappen: 'It doesn't get any better than the 2023 season'
- Sandy van Wijngaarden
As the final race weekend of 2023 in Abu Dhabi is in full swing, Max Verstappen looks back on the great season he has had. Furthermore, he also looks back on the 2021 season and looks ahead to the future.
According to the Dutchman, the 2023 season is about the best season that can be done and it doesn't get better than this. In an interview with De Telegraaf he was presented with the statement that he is the best driver of the moment. Verstappen agrees with this. “I think you should believe in yourself. For me that is the most important rule. My approach has always been that I can beat anyone." He also thought this way in his first year in Formula 1, in 2015, only then he did not have the best car and he still had a lot to learn, but he had no doubts about his own abilities.
The fight with Hamilton
The 2021 season in which Max Verstappen and Lewis Hamilton competed for the world title was very exciting for many fans. Last year and this year the Dutchman has a lot less competition. Does he long for the exciting battles with Lewis Hamilton from the 2021 season? ''No, I don't have to experience such a stressful year as 2021 again. I like it better the way things are going now, the way we have performed as a team this season," he said.
When asked whether he sees himself driving in Formule one somewhere other than Red Bull Racing in the future, he says that at the moment his aim is to finish his career with his current team. He still has a contract until 2028. "I don't know yet what will happen next. Maybe I'll retire from Formula 1 and then I automatically won't drive for another team anyway. That would be a nice story if I could spend my entire career for one team."
