The 2023 season was a groundbreaking one, in terms of records, but a thrilling title fight failed to materialise. This caused a loss of viewers in Germany.

German viewers were overwhelmingly not fans of the dominance Max Verstappen has shown this Formula 1 season. Indeed, the German version of Sky Sports lost a lot of viewers. The paid television channel has lost about 20 per cent reach. This season, an average of 782,000 people watched each race, compared to 980,000 last year (T-Online).

Only one German

Another reason for less popularity for the sport in Germany may be the fact that there is only one German driver in Formula 1 currently, namely Nico Hülkenberg. This will be the same in the 2024 season. Unfortunately, in the Haas, he fails to achieve truly great performances. Mick Schumacher will be in Formula 1 next season only as a replacement driver for Mercedes.
