Tost sees Vettel as favourite: 'Would win against Verstappen'
Former AlphaTauri team boss Franz Tost has had a long career, welcoming 17 drivers. Since 2006, he has been the team boss of the Italian team, formerly known as Toro Rosso. Having had both Sebastian Vettel and Max Verstappen under him, he knows them well. Who does he think would win a race if they were competing against each other?
If Tost was allowed to make his own imaginary team, he would choose Vettel and Verstappen. He cites several reasons for this to Crash.net. According to him, the two would excel in dedication, speed, talent, passion and discipline. "They know how to win races and bring with them all the factors needed to win them. To drive a car of this type, you have to be very skilled. Both are very passionate. Just look at Max: he does a lot of simracing and all this kind of stuff. Isn't it fantastic? He is a three-time Formula One world champion and competes against others on the computer at home. Other than that, they know exactly when and what to do. Discipline is a very, very important factor. They also study their rivals, discover where their shortcomings lie and work to beat them. These are the factors that both drivers have 100 percent of."
Vettel favourite
When asked who is better in a race versus qualifying, the 67-year-old gives a striking answer, given Verstappen's dominance this season. He says Verstappen would win in qualifying, but not in the race. Vettel would then be the best according to him.
