Lewis Hamilton has won seven world titles in his career so far, so a second place probably doesn't count for much. It is well known that he was not happy with the Mercedes car this season, yet the Brit also sees positive aspects in 2023.

At the FIA Prize Giving Gala in Baku, Hamilton reflects on the 2023 season. "There are ups and downs within all seasons. From the moment we started driving the car, at Silverstone, we realised that we’re probably not going to be fighting for a championship and then just refocusing and resetting your goals. Then working towards catching up."

This catch-up has translated into Mercedes' team finishing second in the constructors' championship this year. Most importantly for the Briton, no team member has given up. "I think it's just really pleasing to see that we never gave up. No one in the team gave up. Everyone stayed positive. Just how everyone showed up was super encouraging for me. I think we are always learning more about just appreciating the moment, appreciating each and every single individual in the team. And those results we're getting when we finally get a podium, we appreciate it perhaps more than ever before."

Dethroning the Red Bulls

The highlight of his season was pole position in Hungary. Above all, being better than the Red Bull that session gave him hope. "I think Budapest was the highlight, a track that I love and to somehow dethrone the Red Bulls for a single moment gave us a lot of hope and knowing if we just keep pushing, we may get there," said the Briton.
