Häkinnen: 'Perez is not consistent enough'

Sergio Perez is preparing for an important 2024. Where the expectation is that Max Verstappen will once again be the leader. In the Viaplay series F1 Talks, Mika Häkkinen and David Coulthard look at why things are not going the way the Mexican wants.
According to Häkkinen, Perez's problem lies with his consistency: "You need to be very consistent when you’re working with the team. Checo is a bit up-and-down. And that doesn’t give the team any information to be able to develop the car the way he would like to. And when he’s doing that, it gives the advantage to Max to get all the effort in his driving style and performance. It being the tires or the set-up, whatever it is."
Perez the right man though
According to David Coulthard, Perez should have asked for a miracle before Christmas: "He has been the right man, but his performances this year have not been up to scratch. So if he can somehow ask father Christmas to bring back his pace. I think it went wrong when he declared he was fighting for this world championship. A lot of us were going ‘Yeah, dream on. You’re going up against Max Verstappen.’ The only way he was going to beat Max if he had reliability issues."
