Verstappen busy with own team: 'Don't see myself as Horner or Steiner'
Max Verstappen is currently busy launching his own GT3 team to race under the banner of Verstappen.com Racing. Speaking to Motorsport-Magazin , the 26-year-old Dutchman explains what role he envisions for himself with the team and what the future looks like.
Verstappen has big plans for his own team. He wants to start in GT3 and see where the adventure takes him. The plan is for drivers from the sim racing Team Redline to enter the cars. However, Verstappen is critical of who will get the chance. "Not everyone from the sim team can step into a real racing car. But I want to help the guys in whom I see potential by building my own GT3 team."
So exactly what role will Verstappen himself take on? "I don't see myself as Christian Horner or Guenther Steiner. But I want to be involved in all decisions and be aware of everything. I also want to be there when it fits my schedule. I think I am more like my father," said the three-time world champion, who is thus thinking more of an advisory role. "It is very important to put the right people in the right positions. I want to be very critical. But it's not just me looking around for people. My father does the same. He thinks it's a great project."
Growing with Verstappen.com Racing
Should the project be a success, Verstappen would like to expand further. Is it a real possibility for Max to compete in the 24 Hours of Le Mans with his own team in the future? "That would be cool, wouldn't it? Who knows. It would be great if we can grow to the highest level of endurance racing. A GT3 team with two cars should be achievable by 2025."
