Can Alex Albon become F1 world champion? 'Yes, I really believe so'

Alexander Albon is undoubtedly going into the 2024 season full of confidence. The Thai has probably had the best year of his career, and his team, Williams, are increasingly competitive. Plenty of rumours of Albon's move to a top team in 2025 are already circulating. The Williams team are extremely happy to have the 27-year-old within their ranks.
"Very good," said team boss James Vowles, speaking to Auto, Motor und Sport. The question to the Brit was how good is Albon? Vowles explains: "The Alex you see today is a different Alex than the one at Red Bull or at the start of the 2023 season. Back then he lacked the belief in himself. He has that now. He is happy as a leader, is confident, works in a structured way and sets the direction for the team."
Is Albon the best in Formula 1?
Vowles realises that it is always difficult to gauge how far drivers compare until they are driving the same cars in the same conditions. According to the British team boss, every other driver is going to struggle in the Williams. "At the moment, I know from Alex that he gets the most out of the car at every moment. And never breaks when he comes under pressure. He also manages to deal with a difficult car."
The team boss - who worked with Lewis Hamilton at Mercedes - thinks Albon has a bright future ahead of him because of the aforementioned qualities. "In my opinion, Alex has the qualities to become world champion. I really mean that," Vowles concluded.
