'Sainz doesn't seem to be able to reach an agreement with Ferrari yet'
With the new Formula 1 season just around the corner, drivers need to focus on preparing for it. Ferrari driver Carlos Sainz is currently occupied with other matters as well. Indeed, the Spaniard still does not have a new contract at Ferrari.
Talks between Sainz and his team have been ongoing for some time, but there does not yet seem to be a consensus on the content of the contract, reported by Formu1a.uno. Indeed, Sainz wants a multi-year deal, but Ferrari seems to want to offer him only a one-year contract. The Spaniard's contract still runs until the end of this year at the Italian racetrack.
Charles Leclerc has less trouble negotiating
His teammate Charles Leclerc does not have to worry as much about contract talks. Indeed, the Monegasque appears to be on course for a contract until at least 2028. Although Ferrari team principal Frederic Vasseur has repeatedly raised the issue of not having a first driver within Ferrari, these contract extensions do give different signals.
So for Sainz, it will be a case of waiting and negotiating. The Spaniard indicated several times last year that his priority was to sign his contract before the start of the new season. With a month to go before pre-season testing begins, this seems unlikely to succeed.
