sergio perez won't get a fair chance from red bull against verstappen

'Of course Verstappen is favoured over Perez'

Max Verstappen does have preferential treatment at Red Bull Racing. So states Johnny Herbert in talking to Megadice.com. The former F1 driver compares Verstappen's situation to that of Michael Schumacher.

Is Verstappen being pulled ahead by Red Bull Racing? It is a question people in Mexico will regularly ask themselves. Their Mexican hero is being driven around the ears by Verstappen on a weekly basis and that is not easy to deal with. Herbert has to put up with Sergio Perez in that respect and knows his feelings.

Is Verstappen at an advantage at Red Bull?

"Michael Schumacher always had favouritism over me even though we were a team, it’s hard to perform when you feel that as Sergio Perez will know" Herbert says. The Briton was a Benetton driver in 1994 (only the last two races) and 1995. Schumacher won the two titles in those years; Herbert himself did not go beyond two wins.

"In all my negotiations with Benetton, Flavio Briatore told me that Michael Schumacher and I were a team, that we worked together and everyone had access to the same information. It never worked that way because there tends to be favouritism towards the guy that does deliver."

"When that is there, you feel it and when you feel it that is a hard thing to be able to bat away. As much as Sergio says he ignores it, it does affect you. Sergio has got to put himself into a cocoon and deliver every single time with the battering that comes from the media and from within the team on occasion," Herbert concluded.
