Alexander Albon was reportedly offered a three-year contract by Red Bull Racing. Now it seems he has indeed been offered one, but of a different nature.

After the news came out that Lewis Hamilton would drive for Ferrari in 2025, the rumours continued to pour in. For instance, Red Bull Racing team boss Christian Horner is now under investigation in a case involving inappropriate behaviour. Alexander Albon is also a key player in the rumours.

Peter Windsor said in his own livestream that he was 90% certain that Albon has been offered a three-year contract from Red Bull, effective from 2025. A few days later, during Williams' launch, Williams team boss James Vowles denied this rumour. In fact, Albon is stuck with the British racing team until 2025. Albon didn't deny that "questions and general chats" were ongoing. Albon said his management team are focusing on that side of things.

Albon has had another offer

Motorsport-total's research now shows that Red Bull has indeed made an offer to Albon. However, this offer is not a three-year contract but a kind of right of first refusal. With this, Red Bull is securing Albon as an option. If he agrees, then Red Bull can decide to bring him back to the team for three years in 2026.

Albon says he would prefer to stay at Williams when speaking at a press event attended by GPblog. "Let's see. Time will tell. But my focus is on 2024 [and] on making sure that we make progress for 2025. That's really where I'm at. I realistically want to be with the team. If the team is where I want them to be, it will be a long-term contract."
