Alonso names problem in F1: 'We need to tackle that more efficiently'
The 2024 Formula 1 calendar features a record 24 races. It is, therefore, more important than ever that F1 drivers stay fit both physically and mentally. Fernando Alonso comments on how he is coping with the demanding calendar.
This is how Alonso copes with long F1 calendar
For anyone working in Formula 1, staying sharp throughout the season will be a challenge. "I think we will have to travel more efficiently. We have to spend the right time in the right places," Alonso told GPblog about how he stays fit in such a long season.
He continues: "I think every one of us is different. But in my case for this calendar, I will try to spend less time in the city for the flyaways. So Japan, Australia, China. I will try to fight jet lag in a different way. Not going super early into that country because that keeps accumulating days away from home and the energy and the batteries keep draining throughout the season."
So, travelling more efficiently is important, but drivers also have to work extra hard to stay fit and sharp. "I think the second will be food. I think the food routine will will keep the energy for longer if you are in control of that. Those will be two things that I will try to deal with this year with a long calendar," said the two-time world champion.
Meanwhile, Alonso is the centre of attention regarding Lewis Hamilton's seat at Mercedes, which becomes vacant in 2025. The Aston Martin driver was already being linked with the seat, but those rumours were further fuelled when it emerged that Toto Wolff was in talks with Alonso's manager, former Benetton and Renault team boss Flavio Briatore.
