Wolff on new season: 'Red Bull looks to be top of the field'
Mercedes finished second in the constructors' championship last season. Because Red Bull became champion so early, it was no longer exciting. The Bahrain Grand Prix is just around the corner, marking the start of the new season in motorsport's premier class. Mercedes team boss Toto Wolff is positive.
The Austrian feels the car has improved. "Over these first two races, we will get a much better understanding of the job we have done. After pre-season testing though, we can draw some initial conclusions. The drivers are much happier with the overall balance," the Mercedes team boss explained.
Wolff thinks Red Bull are fastest
The team of Max Verstappen and Sergio Perez seem to have the best chances again. "Red Bull, as is to be expected, look to be at the head of the field. The chasing pack looks tight. We will soon get an idea of where we stack up in that. And the task that is ahead of us to close the gap to the front," the Austrian told reporters.
Wolff said the Mercedes team is excited for next season. With 24 races on the calendar, it will once again be tough for each team. "The year ahead is long. There will be many ups, along with the inevitable downs. But this is why we love racing. And now, we can't wait to get going."
