Doubts for Verstappen? 'I don't know if we are fast enough'
- Ludo van Denderen
It only took a few minutes for Max Verstappen to be asked the questions again. In the press conference ahead of the Bahrain Grand Prix, the driver was asked what he thinks of the situation surrounding his team boss, Christian Horner. As was already evident during the presentation of the RB20 and during the test days, it is a subject Verstappen prefers not to dwell on too much.
So when asked to what extent all the stories about Horner's alleged inappropriate behaviour has an effect on Verstappen, the Red Bull Racing driver said: "It doesn't, I'm very focused on just the performance of the car, myself, and hopefully it will just be resolved very soon."
Verstappen hopes for unity within Red Bull Racing
In the past - when Helmut Marko was under fire after his statements about Mexicans, Verstappen said it is important to display unity as a team. With the Horner case, the Dutchman feels the same way. "Yes, I mean it’s a whole team effort that everyone has to stick together and work towards more success, and that’s why it is important, of course, to get everything, let’s say, result soon," Verstappen said.
More important to him is Saturday's first Grand Prix of the season. Red Bull Racing seem to be the favourite. "Time will tell if they [other F1 teams] are fast enough or not. I also don't know if we are fast enough. Bahrain is one particular track. There are a lot of different tracks on the calendar where you have to perform. In general it's better not to think about it. Then just wake up, you get to the track, you see the result, if it's good or bad, it's not going to change anything, so that's how I approach it, but we'll see."
