Sainz experiences 'great' first race in Bahrain: 'Attacking at last'
Carlos Sainz had a good race in Bahrain. Not only did he manage a podium finish, he also finished the race above his teammate Leclerc and the man who will replace him next year, Lewis Hamilton. How does the Spaniard look back on his own race?
Sainz was named Driver of the Day by F1 fans. A nice crowning achievement for a race that the Spaniard really enjoyed. "Yeah, it was some good moves out there, some fun. At the beginning of the year, I said I wanted a car that allowed me to have fun in the races and attack and not defend like I was doing last year.'' the Spaniard begins. He continues: "And we come to the first race and I was attacking and pushing, which is great to see, great to feel after a year of managing and a year of defending. So yeah, I'm more encouraged and happier with this race."
Applicant Sainz
For Sainz, every race has become like a job application. The 29-year-old will be replaced by none other than Lewis Hamilton next season. Meanwhile, Sainz is still looking for a new seat for 2025. Was Sainz also trying to make a point on the track by driving so well? According to him, no: "I wasn't trying to make any point. I think everyone knows what I'm capable of doing and I know it in myself. I was just doing my race and pushing like I always do," the driver told Viaplay.
