Verstappen demands respect for Marko: 'Has put this team together'
Max Verstappen hopes Red Bull treats Helmut Marko with respect. The Dutchman has made it clear that he shares his fate with Marko, but also believes Marko deserves support from the team.
Helmut Marko appears to be on his way out of Red Bull. The man who co-founded the two Formula 1 teams with Dietrich Mateschitz expects himself to be suspended by Red Bull GmbH next week. The Austrian is said to have leaked information to the media and will now have to pay the price.
Verstappen takes issue with Marko
"I think you have to treat Helmut with a lot of respect, the way he put the team together with Dietrich from the beginning. Helmut has also always supported Christian in more difficult times for the team. I myself am also in this journey, I did not sign a contract until 2028 for nothing," Verstappen told De Telegraaf.
Therefore, Verstappen will not let Marko down. Verstappen has repeatedly stated that he will leave the team if Marko ever quits, and that moment now seems to be getting awfully close.
With the turmoil at Red Bull Racing, Toto Wolff smells his chance. The Mercedes team boss still has a seat for 2025 and would like to fill it with Verstappen. Jos Verstappen and Toto Wolff already had talks in Bahrain and the Austrian revealed that the bond with the Verstappens has always been good.
