pirelli tyres and strategy for Saudi Arabia Grand Prix

There are plenty of strategy options to win the Saudi Arabia Grand Prix. At least, that is what Pirelli suggest. The Formula 1 tyre supplier identifies four possible options for Saturday's race.

Pirelli have brought the C2, C3 and C4 tyres for the Grand Prix at the Jeddah street circuit. All three tyres are included in Pirelli's options for the race. Pirelli say a medium to hard strategy is the fastest option, but soft to hard is also possible. There is also an option from medium to soft and an option to do a three-stopper.

In Saudi Arabia, race strategy will be influenced mainly by the safety car. With the walls very close and the speed very high, there is a high chance of a crash. There are not many run off zones around the circuit so there is also a high chance of a red flag.

Which drivers have their hands tied?

Max Verstappen still has two new sets of the mediums and one new set of the hard tyres left. Unlike last week in Bahrain, the Dutchman has already used the red tyre and will, therefore, most likely not drive on that tyre. Sergio Perez has the same sets left.

McLaren and Aston Martin no longer have a new set of hards. In fact, Aston Martin they are also out of new mediums. Fernando Alonso, unlike his rivals, does have a fresh set of soft tyres left.
