- GPblog.com
Formula E completed the second free practice in Sao Paolo at 7:30a.m. local time. This was the time for the drivers to test their electric cars ahead of qualifying and the race later today. Sam Bird finished fastest in the second free practice session for the Formula E race in São Paulo. Stoffel Vandoorne finished second, almost exactly one-tenth slower. Mitch Evans had a front suspension problem.
Free practice started badly for favourite Jaguar's Mitch Evans. The New Zealander, who dominated FP1 with his team, had not yet driven a lap and already had to go inside. There appeared to be a front suspension problem.
Major grid penalty and De Vries in 7th
During free practice, it was announced that Maximillian Günther (Maserati) would receive a grid penalty of over 20 places for the race. His gearbox was replaced before this free practice. Mortara also experienced a problem. The Swiss driver's Mahindra stalled in the middle of the track, eventually triggering a red flag just as Mitch Evans entered the track for his first laps. At the time, Nyck de Vries was in position number seven. Although the lights still went green, the drivers had too little time to clock up another fast lap.
