Debate | Will Leclerc snatch pole position in Melbourne from Verstappen?
During both the first free practice and second free practice, Max Verstappen finished in second place. In FP1, Lando Norris was narrowly faster, but in FP2, Charles Leclerc topped the timesheet with a street-length lead. The verdict is as follows: Leclerc snatches pole position in Melbourne from Verstappen.
Can Leclerc snatch pole position from Verstappen?
In the first two races this season (in Bahrain and Saudi Arabia), Verstappen managed to force pole position for the Grand Prix both times. At the Albert Park Street Circuit, the Dutchman in his RB20 has not really been convincing yet. In FP2, Leclerc was as much as four-tenths faster on soft tyres than Verstappen on red tyres.
After the second practice session in Australia, Leclerc did not want to celebrate too soon. Among other things, the Ferrari driver said he expects Red Bull to still have an advantage. Leclerc is often seen as a real qualifying driver, though. So the question is whether he can snatch pole position from Verstappen this weekend.
