Verstappen gets question about revenge for last year: 'Why?'
The 2024 edition of the Australian Grand Prix will start with Max Verstappen in pole position for the race. Also in 2023, Verstappen started from the first starting spot, but was soon passed by Mercedes driver George Russell. After several red flags, the Dutchman still won. Verstappen briefly looks back at that moment.
The three-time world champion is asked if he has extra motivation to make a statement at the Grand Prix this year, as he won last year, in somewhat strange fashion (with the last lap behind the safety car). "Why?", Verstappen wonders. For the Red Bull driver, it does not matter which way he wins.
Verstappen: "Doesn't matter, does it?
"A win is a win. It doesn't matter, right? But it was just a bit messy last year with too many red flags. So let's just hope that that is not the case this year and that we can have a good race in general because I think the fans, they deserve that. It's always a great race to be at. And yeah, I do think that it can be an interesting race tomorrow," Verstappen said.
As mentioned, Verstappen will start from P1 tomorrow, but he himself was not entirely satisfied with qualifying in Melbourne. Indeed, the reigning world champion felt things went a bit smoother in Bahrain and Saudi Arabia.
