Brundle column on Verstappen after Australia GP
26 March at 10:00

In Australia, Max Verstappen had the chance to equal his record of most wins in a row. The Dutchman of course couldn't achieve that, due to a brake problem. Yet Martin Brundle sees in positive change in Verstappen's mood after his failure, he says in his column for Sky Sports.

Carlos Sainz eventually ran away with victory. The Spaniard overtook Verstappen on the second lap, after which the problem with the brakes of the triple world champion's RB20 became apparent.

Brundle does not dare to say with complete certainty whether Ferrari would have won without Verstappen's outburst: "McLaren kept Ferrari remarkably honest with their race pace suggesting Verstappen would have been right in there. We'll never know the answer to the question of course, but my gut feeling all the way through was that it was Ferrari's day."

Brundle praises Verstappen

After the race, Verstappen remained relatively calm in front of the cameras. This also struck with Brundle: "Despite his incredible run of successes Verstappen was initially very angry that his car had failed. When the adrenaline washes away he has become good at a managing these moods now, but if he ever loses that fiery passion in the heat of the moment you'll know he is getting ready to retire."
