Carlos Sainz won the Australian Grand Prix last weekend. George Russell crashed on the last lap and could not finish the race. Russell has crashed out at every race Sainz has won in his Formula 1 career.

Carlos Sainz has won three Grands Prix in his career. He won the British Grand Prix in 2022, Singapore in 2023, and Australia in 2024. A separate fact is that George Russell did not finish in all three of these races.

Every time Sainz wins, Russell does not see the finish line

The 2022 British Grand Prix started with Zhou Guanyu's heavy crash. Mercedes driver George Russell was also involved in the crash, and when he stopped, he climbed out to check on the Chinese driver. He could not continue in the Grand Prix and Sainz won this race after his pole position on Saturday.

Sainz also managed to win the Singapore Grand Prix. This victory made him the only non-Red Bull driver to win a race in 2023. Russell did not see the finish line in this Grand Prix either. Just before the end, he crashed his Mercedes into the wall. As a result, the Brit lost a podium finish to his teammate, Lewis Hamilton.

At the Australian Grand Prix, we saw the phenomenon again. Sainz won the race, having had his appendix removed two weeks earlier. Russell crashed his Mercedes into the wall at turn six. In the end, Fernando Alonso got a 20-second penalty for this. In total, Russell has six retirements for Mercedes. In the other three races Russell has retired from in Mercedes colours (Australia 2023, Canada 2023 and Brazil) Fernando Alonso finished on the podium.
