'Ferrari has a better chance of winning the constructors' title than Red Bull'
- Ludo van Denderen
René Arnoux competed for Ferrari in Formula 1 and is a true supporter of the Scuderia. In his assessment of Charles Leclerc and Carlos Sainz's team, Arnoux is, therefore, not completely impartial. However, Sainz's win in Australia filled him with pride. And perhaps there is more in the pipeline, according to Arnoux.
Arnoux saw Verstappen retire in Melbourne, and there is still a gap to Red Bull Racing. The Frenchman—whose best overall finish was third in the 1983 World Championship—is convinced that Ferrari has taken the right path. He sees Ferrari as favourites for the constructors' world title.
Arnoux wants an end to saga at Red Bull
Speaking to the Gazzetta dello Sport, the seven-time Grand Prix winner hopes the Red Bull saga will soon be over. "I want to see a real duel. I am not interested in Ferrari winning because of things like that," he says. "On the contrary, I'm happy that in a few races, they have managed to erase a few tenths of their deficit."
That is why Arnoux sees chances for a world title. "I hope they can compete for the constructors' championship. Also because Perez is not exactly at a high level. I even think, if there are no major problems, that Ferrari might have a better chance than Red Bull," concludes the Frenchman.
