F1 Today | Vettel flirts with return to racing, new rumours about Mercedes

3 April at 17:00

It's not the first time a world champion has been asked about the available Mercedes seat, and it wouldn’t be the first time a former world champion would return to Formula 1. No matter how much he believes he has made the right decision to retire, Sebastian Vettel does miss racing.

Sebastian Vettel often talks to Toto Wolff

It is no secret that Toto Wolff has a big task at hand, namely, finding a driver who can successfully replace Lewis Hamilton at Mercedes. Four-time world champion Sebastian Vettel told Sky News that he often talks to different team principals, including Toto Wolff.

Racing is certainly something that Vettel miss to this day, and he has already tested Porsche’s hypercar, however, he does have other things to also focus on. "Obviously, it [a return to racing] does cross my mind. I do think about it, but it's not the main thought. I have three kids at home, it's busy every day, so there's a lot of other thoughts that I have."

Mercedes want Waché

Another name that has come up at Mercedes is Pierre Waché, who is the technical director of Red Bull Racing.

According to F1-Insider, the rumour states that after Toto Wolff has already said there isn’t a team that wouldn’t do "handstands" to sign Max Verstappen, they would try to sign the person who was also tipped to be a replacement for Christian Horner during the investigation of the British team principal.

Alonso fans find Guido van der Garde

Former Caterham driver was found by Spanish fans after he called out Fernando Alonso after he break-tested George Russell at the Australian Grand Prix. The Dutch driver has said he received some messages from Alonso fans.

The fans were kind to Van der Garde after he called the two-time world champion an a**hole. You can find the Dutchman’s response here.

Tsunami alert in Japan

It is already believed that we are going to have a rainy race in Japan this weekend, but a new tsunami alert has been issued in the country. On the other hand, the Suzuka circuit seems to be far away from the expectedly three-metre-high waves communicated by the local TV channels.
