Verstappen happy with pole position but remains calm: 'The only thing that matters'

Verstappen after pole position in Japan

Max Verstappen achieved pole position in F1 for the fourth time in a row this season. Throughout qualifying for the Japanese Grand Prix, the Dutchman was fastest. Verstappen will have Sergio Perez alongside him tomorrow at the start of the Grand Prix. The Dutchman reflects on his qualifying.

Verstappen talked explained his qualifying after driving the fastest time. "It was quite close at the end. Overall, this track is very sensitive with the tyres. The tarmac is really aggressive and when you want to go to the limit it doesn't always work out. Nevertheless, most importantly it's to be on pole. Of course you want every lap to be perfect but around a track like this, it's not always the case. Overall, a very good day and a good starting position for tomorrow and tomorrow is what counts," the Dutchman commented.

Verstappen happy with Perez's P2

Verstappen's teammate Perez will start from P2 alongside the Dutchman tomorrow. Verstappen is happy that his teammate is also doing so well. "It's great as a team to be P1 and P2. Hopefully we can keep that going for tomorrow," explained the Dutchman.

Because Verstappen was fastest again in qualifying, the Dutchman maintains his 100% score in this season in terms of pole positions. Charles Leclerc, often characterised as a true qualifying driver, could not match the times of Perez and Verstappen, as he finished the session only in P8.
