Max Verstappen starts the 2024 Japanese Grand Prix from pole position but is clearly concerned about the pace from Ferrari, who rely mostly on their long runs this weekend. Can Verstappen bounce back from his DNF in Australia? Can Sergio Perez challenge his teammate? Can Ferrari have a great Sunday and recover after qualifying? You can follow it with this live blog from GPblog.com.

Verstappen took pole position for the Japanese Grand Prix on Saturday. The Dutchman was just faster than his teammate, Sergio Perez, but the Dutchman made a mistake on his second flying lap in Q3. Verstappen is wary of the Ferraris of Carlos Sainz and Charles Leclerc. They already showed good pace this weekend during FP1, but neither of them are on the front row this time, Sainz will start from P4, Leclerc will start from P8 on the grid.

If Verstappen does manage to win in Japan, it will be the second time in a couple of months that the defending champion managed to return to winning ways after a Carlos Sainz victory a race before.

Lando Norris also has a great shot at finishing on the podium, and Fernando Alonso and the two Mercedes should not be counted out either to have a good race at Suzuka.
