Perez has strong start to season: 'We have good momentum'
The Japan Grand Prix has provided the third 1-2 for Red Bull this season. Sergio Perez finished second for the third time. He is happy with his race and with being close to his teammate, Max Verstappen.
After a weaker race in Australia due to problems with his car, Sergio Perez was back on the podium in Japan, taking P2 behind his teammate. The race was interrupted for a long time by a red flag. The Mexican indicated after the race that it was difficult to keep his concentration, but he managed to do so. Indeed, his second start was a lot better than his first.
Perez is full of confidence after the Japanese Grand Prix
His restart was just not good enough to overtake Max Verstappen. His second place in Japan now puts him in second place in the drivers' championship. ''It was a good weekend for the team. I"I think we paid the price a little bit because we were a little bit off balance during that first stint, which meant we couldn’t keep it alive. We had to box and we were undercut by Lando and then I had to push too much on that medium stint.'' This resulted in an undercut from Lando Norris.
"But then on the hard stint, I was a lot more comfortable. The pace came back." Perez is having a good start to the season and he himself is very pleased with that. "I think we are in a good momentum. If you remember here last year was probably my worst weekend. So I think if we are strong in places like this with a lot of high and medium-speed corners, I think we can be strong anywhere else."
