Andretti won't give up on F1 dream: 'Important meeting with F1 soon'
- Ludo van Denderen
At the beginning of the year, Andretti-Cadillac had a bitter pill to swallow. The Americans had hoped to make their entrance into Formula 1 in 2025, but Formula One Management (FOM) put a stop to that. The verdict ruled that Andretti-Global would not add value to the sport. But Michael Andretti and his people are not giving up: by 2026, they hope to be admitted to the F1 grid after all.
Since the rejection, Andretti and Cadillac have continued to work hard on their F1 dream. Just recently, Andretti opened a new factory in Silverstone, where they are working hard on an F1 car in case Formula 1 still gives them the green light to enter the sport at some point. With the new facilities, Andretti also wants to convince the FOM that the Americans really mean business: Formula 1 is not an interlude for Andretti and Cadillac; they actually want to succeed.
Andretti and Cadillac are working hard
Although FOM is currently saying 'no', Cadillac has already indicated—as planned—that they will be an engine supplier in Formula 1 from 2028. This fact, too, should be a reason for FOM to reconsider an Andretti Cadillac entry. According to Mario Andretti, Michael's father, the umbrella organisation is not deaf and blind to all the efforts made by the American combination.
"We’re continuously working on it every day, regardless of what was represented to the press so far," the former F1 champion told Sports Illustrated. "I think that we have a valid approach to it. The FIA has put us through the ringer, if you will, for us to be able to check all the boxes and we have one more blessing that we need from the FOM, but we’re having a key meeting coming up and hopefully we have some positive results from that."
