Hamilton responds defensively to question on F1 future

For Mercedes, the 2024 Formula 1 season did not start as hoped. Lewis Hamilton, who is swapping the German F1 team for Ferrari next year, feels that all the questions and speculation about the reason for his departure could be toned down.

Hamilton defensive after question on F1 future

Faced with Mercedes' disappointing 2024 start and asked if that justified his decision to switch to the Scuderia, Hamilton replied: "Well, I don't feel like I need my decision vindicated. I know what's right for me and that hasn't changed since the moment that I made the decision. There's not been a moment that I've questioned it."

He continued: "I'm not swayed by what people's comments. So even today, there's people continuing to talk sh*t and it will continue on for the rest of the year. I'll have to just do what I did the previous time. Only you can know what's right for you. It will be exciting."

Hamilton expects to do battle with Alonso

Fernando Alonso's contract extension is currently the talk of the day. His new contract with Aston Martin means that the two-time world champion will be active as an F1 driver until at least the age of 45. After the news broke, the 42-year-old Spaniard indicated that he still has a lot of years left in him. Even for Hamilton, who turns 40 next year, the end is not yet in sight.

Earlier this year, the seven-time world champion caused quite a stir by announcing that he will move to Ferrari in 2025. There, he still expects to compete frequently with his old rival: "I'm going to be racing for quite some time still. So it's definitely good that he's still around. I hope that he keeps going for a little bit longer as well."
