F1 LIVE | Sprint Shootout: Chinese Grand Prix
On Friday afternoon in China, the sprint shootout will be held after just 60 minutes of practice at the Shanghai International Circuit. It will be a challenging session for every team. Since the last time F1 visited the track in 2019, there have been new cars, new tyres, and resurfaced asphalt.
Lance Stroll was the quickest in practice, but it is hard to know who will be the quickest in the first meaningful session of the weekend. Stroll completed his lap late when the circuit was at its best, and some teams opted for different run plans. Teams can also make changes during the break as the cars are not yet in parc ferme.
Bizarre red flag moment in FP1
After loose drain covers earlier this year, there was a new and bizarre reason to wave a red flag during a free practice session at the Chinese Grand Prix. Unfortunately for the teams, the grass caught fire after 15 minutes, leading to a red flag. It took the marshalls a couple of minutes to deal with the incident. The session was then completed without further stoppage.
The session is expected to last 45 minutes and will begin at 8:30 a.m. (GMT) / 9:30 a.m. (CET).
