Verstappen worried if it rains in China: 'Happy to drive here in the dry'
Whereas in the past Red Bull Racing were mostly known for excelling on Sundays, these days the Austrian formation do the same on Saturdays. Not only did Max Verstappen win the sprint race convincingly in China, the Dutchman also grabbed his fifth pole position in as many qualifying sessions this season.
Verstappen was three tenths faster than runner-up Sergio Perez. Fernando Alonso came closest to the RB20 on behalf of the competition. He conceded half a second. Red Bull thus once again showed that even in qualifying, there is no limit to them for the time being.
"After the Sprint race, it gave us a few more ideas for the car and I think the car worked even better in Qualifying," Verstappen said immediately afterwards. "Definitely very happy with how the whole of Qualifying went. The car was really nice to drive and also in Q3, that final lap felt pretty decent."
Where it rained in sprint qualifying on Friday, it remained dry a day later. Much to Verstappen's delight. "I'm also very happy to drive here in the dry. The conditions were pretty good, so it was a lot of fun."
