Hamilton makes this promise to his fans after disappointing Chinese GP
Lewis Hamilton has promised "the next race will be better" after the seven-time World Champion had a frustrating race. The Brit qualified in P18 and slowly worked his way through the field to score two points. At one stage, Hamilton voiced his frustration over the team radio about being stuck behind Alpine, who are yet to score points in the 2024 Formula 1 season.
Mercedes missed the mark when the 2022 rules and regulations were introduced and have been playing catch up ever since. They finished second in the 2023 Constructors World Championship but now seem firmly behind Ferrari and their customer team McLaren. Hamilton confirms that the situation is getting worse by claiming it's "worst setup he has ever had".
Why is Hamilton struggling?
"I made the wrong decision with the setup. I'm not going to do that again. It's probably the worst setup I've ever had. But I'm glad at least I went forwards and our car really does work in a small window. I really thought it was the right decision when I made the decision, and it was the worst. The worst. The next race will be better," Hamilton told Viaplay after the Chinese Grand Prix
"I can't tell you anything about it. In high speed, it turns really well, and in low speed, it doesn't turn. It barely turns at all. So you do all the turning on power, and that's why you kill your rear tyres," Hamilton explained.
The Formula 1 circus will travel to Miami for the next Grand Prix. Mercedes will bring an update, and Hamilton told Sky Sports he is hopeful it will provide an improvement. Hamilton currently sits ninth in the World Championship and is more than 10 points behind Fernando Alonso in eighth.
