Marko makes revelation about Perez: 'But we will find a solution'
The at the moment still empy Formula 1 seat next to Max Verstappen from 2025 onwards is often a topic of conversation this season. Sergio Perez appears to be in pole position to race for Red Bull Racing again next season. Red Bull advisor Helmut Marko says Perez himself would be happy to sign for three more seasons with the racing team.
Perez contract ends after this season, but he is only too happy to drive for a few more years with the Austrian constructor. From 2026, new rules will be implemented in motorsport's premier class and Perez would like to still be active for Red Bull then, also because it would then make sense for continuity when the new rules come into force.
Marko on Perez's possible contract extension
The driver choice has nothing to do with the new regulations, says Marko. "We are not yet in a position to finalise everything. But it has nothing to do with regulations. He knows he has to perform," Marko told Motorsport.com. "First he wanted a three-year contract. But we will find a solution," revealed the 80-year-old man from Graz.
After qualifying for the Chinese Grand Prix, Marko acknowledged Perez is in 'pole position' for the seat at Red Bull for next season. 'Almost everything is in favour of Perez,' the Austrian said after qualifying, where the Mexican finished in second place.
