Domenicali wants to introduce change not endorsed by teams
Immediately after the first Sprint weekend was held at the Shanghai International Circuit in China, the second one will happen at the Miami Grand Prix. Stefano Domenicali was encouraged by the sprint sessions in China, and hinted at more of them in the future.
"We had a lot of running in the qualifying sprint through those incredible conditions. And that reminds us that we have the duty to make sure that every day there is some action on the track, to respect the fans that are coming here because we want to have fun," Domenicali told Sky Sports his evaluation of the sprint sessions in China.
'We need cars on the track'
The Italian also said that expanding to having more sprint weekends is something that Formula One will continue to bring up. "Why not? I would say this is great because keep the tension every day. This is something that we'll discuss in the future. Now, let's see how this year with the sprint, the way that we have decided this year will go. But that's a point of discussion. For sure, what I want to discuss in the next commission."
He continued: "We need to avoid any possibility to have in a situation like Japan, cars not running. This is not good for the people that are coming to see us, to see the drivers. And I'm sure that the teams will understand. So we need to find solutions."
