The Formula 1 world looked set to ease into an off-weekend before the razzmatazz of the Miami Grand Prix weekend. Yet a bombshell suggestion landed that could send shockwaves through the F1 paddock. F1 is currently rife with long-term storylines, and this one could change the picture of F1 for the rest of the decade. 

Newey set to leave Red Bull

Adrian Newey is expected to announce his departure from Red Bull soon. This story was reported by Auto, Motor und Sport. According to the German medium, Newey is unhappy with the power struggle within the team. Moreover, because of the budget cap, he is in danger of having to focus entirely on the RB17 hypercar project. The 65-year-old Briton is said to be unhappy about that because his passion still lies with Formula 1.

Newey's contract with Red Bull runs until the end of 2025, but according to rumors the technician would like to leave at the end of 2024 so that he can focus on a new project elsewhere.

F1 delay decision on change to points system

The points system in Formula 1 will remain as it is for now. On Thursday, the F1 Commission met to discuss a proposal for a new points system where 11th and 12th places would also be entitled to points. It was agreed that more research is needed before a final verdict can be made.

McLaren are demanding more than $30 million from Alex Palou. Palou, however, refuses to pay. A judge is due to decide who is right. The cause: the Spaniard's alleged breach of contract when he did not join McLaren's IndyCar team for 2024 but decided to stay with Chip Ganassi Racing.

Just after HP was announced as the new title sponsor of Ferrari, another brand is looking to enter Formula 1, namely, Mastercard. McLaren are currently tipped to be the team to be sponsored by the company, but another teams haven't been ruled out either.

And there's even room for no money at all! Formula 1 has announced a brand new 24/7 streaming service for fans in the United States. The channel will launch ahead of next weekend's Miami Grand Prix and will feature F1, F2, F3 and F1 Academy race replays. The US fans will be treated to classic Grand Prix replays and expert analysis subscription-free. However, they can only watch Grand Prix-related content five days after the launch.
