Newey to Ferrari as he leaves Red Bull

The rumours are becoming increasingly persistent: Adrian Newey is reportedly on his way out of Red Bull Racing to possibly seek salvation with another Formula 1 team. Sky Sports reporter Craig Slater discusses the most logical options for the top designer.

'Aston Martin easier, but Ferrari more likely'

Everyone wants to sign Newey but he has mostly been associated with Ferrari and Aston Martin recently. "There's been speculation that Ferrari were trying to sign him, and also that Aston Martin were were hoping to perhaps entice him to to work there. That would certainly be an easier move in logistical terms for Newey because they're based at Silverstone," Slater stated.

However, the Italian F1 team seems the most likely option for Newey, should he indeed leave Red Bull. "Ferrari have been trying for over 20 years to sign Adrian Newey and have been unsuccessful in that. But some insiders within Aston Martin have been explaining to me that that they think if he is to go somewhere else, it would be Ferrari potentially," the Sky analyst concluded.

Newey is mostly linked to Ferrari and was even spotted near Maranello recently. The 65-year-old Briton himself previously said that in the past he doubted about a move to the Italian racing stable, but that he and his family were not keen on the move at the time. He said working for the iconic Scuderia would always be a tempting idea.
