Williams confirm talks with Adrian Newey
Williams are indeed in talks with Adrian Newey about a new collaboration. Team principal James Vowles confirmed this in talking to Motorsport.com.
On Friday, it was revealed that Williams hopes to bring Adrian Newey back to the British team. Newey worked for Williams in the past, but eventually left there because, with Frank Williams and Patrick Head, he did not have enough of a say. With Newey leaving Red Bull Racing, a return to Williams is possible.
Where will Newey work?
"Our conversations with him have been very light. But even so, are we in discussions? Yes. Very light discussions. But to answer your question, would it be a dream team? Yes," said the Williams team principal in Miami. "I've known Adrian for a while anyway, and I spoke to him Friday. I'm sure we'll be talking again, very shortly as well. He is an icon of our sport. There is no doubt about it."
Newey will initially have to decide whether he wants to continue working in F1. If he wants to, there are plenty of teams to work for. Ferrari still seems to have the best chance of getting his signature, but Aston Martin is also said to have made a bid for the top designer.
