Perez describes the moment when he nearly crashed with Verstappen
Things almost went wrong for Max Verstappen at the start of the Miami Grand Prix. Sergio Perez braked too late, nearly knocking his Dutch teammate off the track. After the race, the Mexican told Viaplay about the almost catastrophic start.
The race was tricky for Perez. The Red Bull driver lost many places at the start. In the end, he finished fifth behind Lando Norris, Max Verstappen, Charles Leclerc, and Carlos Sainz.
Perez said: "It was quite a tricky race overall, especially starting the race offline. I dived inside, and there was no grip at all. Unfortunately, I ended up losing a place to Piastri. I damaged my tyres a bit. Later on, during that medium stint, I struggled just to follow the rhythm. The tyres were getting too hot, too warm. That basically meant that I just couldn't get through the people ahead."

Perez was close to running Verstappen off the track in Turn 1. The Mexican himself says: "It was super close. Luckily, I managed to release the brake. And not to hit Max, but it was really close."
