At the Miami Grand Prix, Max Verstappen failed to secure a victory. Lando Norris was too quick for him. In the end, the Dutchman's Red Bull turned out to have a lot of damage from hitting a cone. Verstappen jokes about this moment after the race.
After winning the sprint race on Saturday and then taking pole position for Sunday's Grand Prix, everything looked like Max Verstappen would win the main race as well. This only turned out differently due to considerable damage to his floor after hitting a pole at turn 15, with Christian Horner explaining after the race that this damage caused him to lose a lot of speed.
Verstappen jokes about collision with pole in Miami
Verstappen himself was unaware of any harm after the race. He did not realise at the time that he had sustained significant damage from that moment. He joked about the collision after the Grand Prix. "I didn't like it so I decided to take it out and test the durability of the front wing as well so that's a crash test done!"
So at the time, the Dutchman did not realise that he had actually suffered floor damage from this moment. "There was no damage the cone was out of the way for everyone so it was a free-for-all after that," Verstappen said about it. This damage may have cost him the win.
