McLaren continue with fighting talk: 'Our mission is far from over'
Before the 2023 British Grand Prix, McLaren were a team full of struggles. However, after they brought updates to Silverstone, they continued to improve and stay near the front of the grid, highlighted by Oscar Piastri's sprint victory in Qatar and Lando Norris' race victory at the Miami Grand Prix. They have brought the fight to the front of the grid, and now with added updates, team boss Andrea Stella wants his team to continue with this fight.
McLaren continues on its upward trajectory
It has been a long time since McLaren, one of the most successful teas in F1 history, tasted championship success. Their last World Championship came via Liews Hamilton in 2008, and their last contractors' title was in 1998. However, last month, Stella believed his team would be able to take his team towards title contention and take the fight to Red Bull.
Stella said that if McLaren "keep this trajectory of development for the next twelve months, then why not? We may reach Red Bull. We're gonna have some upgrades in Miami. Let's see how they perform."
Those updates performed perfectly, giving Norris his first F1 win of his career, and highlighting what progress McLaren have made since Stella took over as team principal, with the British team now challenging Red Bull for race victories. The Italian team boss knows that, and he wants to continue with the fantastic progress, which he spoke about in McLaren's press release before the Emilia Romagna Grand Prix.
Stella wants McLaren to 'double down on our efforts'
"After a wonderful result in Miami, the team have come together in Woking to celebrate the hard work and dedication that has got us to this point," explained Stella.
"This doesn’t mean our mission is over. This result has served to reinvigorate our goal to consistently achieve wins and podiums, and we double down on our efforts. The team have now reset as we turn our attention to the first European race of the year. Imola is one of the fastest circuits on the calendar and should offer some good opportunities for us to continue adding to our Championship points."
