There have been a lot of rumours surrounding the Williams team. All of them surround the driver lineup for the 2025 season. Alex Albon signed a 'muti-year' contract, sealing his spot in the team. However, whoever will join the Thai-British driver in that second seat is anybody's guess. Logan Sargeant's performances in 2024 have not been good enough to warrant another contract extension, and there have been rumours that Formula 2 driver Andrea Kimi Antonelli will replace the American. Now, team boss James Vowles has spoken about the situation regarding Sargeant.

Vowles: Sargeant is 'at risk'

After a mediocre 2023, Sargeant was signed by Williams to race again in 2024 in the hope that the American would improve. However, that has not been the case, and now, Sargeant's seat is a major doubt for 2025. And with Mercedes being very keen for Antonelli to gain some F1 experience before he, potentially, joins the Silver Arrows, the German team would like to see the Italian behind the wheel of the Williams.

Speaking to Sky Sports after free practice one at the Emilia Romagna Grand Prix at Imola, Williams team boss Vowles was asked about this situation with Sargant's seat, to which the team principal said they've already had a conversation with the American about this issue.

"We've had a direct conversation which is a very hard conversation," said Vowels. "The simple matter of fact is he's at risk.  He has to perform above what he is. It's meritocracy. I'm helping him on his journey and want him to be successful."

Vowles also gave some information on when news might come on a decision for Williams' 2025 driver lineup. "I would say in a few weeks you will see some potential news in that area. In the mean time, we are talking to a few other drivers, because we have to get our 2025, 2026, and 2027 line-up correct."
