Wolff has an answer for replacing Hamilton: 'Maybe if we have an Italian'
After Lewis Hamilton will eventually leave for Ferrari in 2025, and Mercedes are in need to sign a replacement for the Briton. At Imola, Toto Wolff made a comment about a potential person that can sit in the second Mercedes car next to George Russell.
It is the first time since Lewis Hamilton's contract with Ferrari has been announced from 2025 onwards that the Briton races on an Italian track. On Friday for example, Hamilton waved at the Italian fans. "We haven’t spoken about it actually because there is 100 million people that watch every Grand Prix and then there is obviously the local Italians here. But I guess for the Italians it’s super exciting to have Lewis Hamilton in red next year," Wolff commented to Sky Sports.
The team principal also referred to Kimi Antonelli. "We will get used to the outfits. But we’ve got to look at ourselves and maybe there is an option that we shine more with an Italian in our car, so we’re pushing back as hard."
Wolff also underlined that the focus at the moment is on the current drivers. "I am giving all for George and Lewis this year, as it was no change next year.
