Perez sure: 'That's the reason I was eliminated in Q2'

Sergio Perez had a disappointing qualifying session. The Mexican did not progress beyond Q2 in Imola. Afterwards, he told Viaplay and Sky Sports the reasons why he was eliminated in Q2.

All weekend, Red Bull seemed to be struggling. This was less the case in qualifying, at least with Max Verstappen. Perez spoke to Viaplay and said he was already struggling in Q1: "Yeah, I think I took it a little bit easier after the incident into Q1, and that put us at risk, and we thought we were not safe. So we went again on a new set of tyres where that really compromised the whole qualifying because going on new tyres meant that we started Q2 with a scrub tyre,"
Perez continued: "We were at risk when we put the new tyre. We picked up a lot of free grip, and I just went straight into turn seven. So just another very straightforward quali session."
Despite the poorer qualifying, Perez is not giving up hope of a good finish to the weekend. He said to Sky Sports: "I think we're able to get into the points good amount of points and minimise the damage. That will be very important."
