The rumour mill is currently running at full speed. Italian media believe that Adrian Newey will be working for Ferrari from mid-2025 and a contract with the Scuderia has even already been signed. Meanwhile, Williams has not yet given up hope of Red Bull Racing's chief technical officer (CTO) returning to the old nest. However, it might just be a third team that finally manages to capture Newey. Indeed, Mercedes ' technical boss says the 65-year-old Briton is also of interest to his team.

Newey himself earlier indicated he wanted to take time off in the coming period, but soon after that he indicated he was likely to miss Formula 1. A new challenge may come at Ferrari and Williams, but who knows, maybe Mercedes will still enter the fray. James Allison, Mercedes' technical boss, was asked by Sky Sports in Imola whether he could work with Newey?

After all, both are used to leading the technical team, and in recent seasons they have actually been the biggest rivals. "That is quite a hypothetical question but I see no reason why not," Allison revealed. With that, the door is suddenly wide open for a collaboration between two of the most successful technical bosses on the F1 grid, at least if Newey feels the same way.

'Every team should think about Newey'

Allison did not say whether Mercedes has actually spoken to Newey about a tenure. However, he did say, ""You'd have to be reasonably clear about who was doing what but I think that any team that's looking at Adrian on the market as a person who is pretty effective would be asking the same question of how you bring a guy like that in and make the most of him." said Allison.
