Formula One is more popular than ever, at least, for organisers of Grands Prix. More and more countries want to host a race in motorsport's royal class. Greg Maffei, Liberty Media's CEO, tells Autosport.com that several countries in Southeast Asia are interested in hosting a Formula One Grand Prix.
Currently, there is one Southeast Asian Grand Prix on the calendar. That is the Grand Prix of Singapore. The race weekend has been on the calendar since 2008. But could a new GP in Southeast Asia be on the way?
But a second Grand Prix may be added in Southeast Asia. Maffei says: "There is a lot of interest in Asia, there are many cities that are interested. For example, Thailand, Seoul [capital of South Korea] and Indonesia have expressed interest. There are lots of places that want to host a Formula One race."
In addition, the Liberty Media CEO says that several factors are being considered, such as where the fans are, who could organise a good race and who can pay for a race. Maffei concludes by stating that a second Grand Prix in Southeast Asia is a realistic idea.
