Formula E: Evans takes P1, Wehrlein closer to Cassidy in standings
- Corwin Kunst
Mitch Evans has won the first Shanghai ePrix. In an exciting battle, he crossed the finish line just a little ahead of Pascal Wehrlein. As a result, the German is now only 13 points behind championship leader Nick Cassidy. Cassidy himself finished third in Shanghai.
For a long time, Wehrlein defended his leading position with verve, but on the last lap Jaguar driver Evans passed him. Pole-sitter Jean Eric-Vergne had a disappointing Saturday. The DS Penske driver had to settle for seventh place.
Championship leader Nick Cassidy did good business with a third place. However, he did see Wehrlein - who thus crossed the line in second place - creep a little closer in the battle for the world title. Oliver Rowland, the current number three in the World Championship, finished fourth at the track where Formula 1 also competed earlier this year. Former F1 driver Nyck de Vries drove a solid race and finished P8. They are the first points for him this year.
Sunday morning there is another ePrix, again at the same circuit in Shanghai, China.
