Verstappen fed up after P6 finish at Monaco: 'We performed dramatically'
- Cas van de Kleut
Max Verstappen is all done with it after qualifying in Monaco. In the Principality, the Dutchman did not get beyond sixth place. After qualifying, the three-time world champion was absolutely not happy with his car.
All weekend, Verstappen has had problems with the car. In qualifying, however, the Dutchman looked like he could keep up with the competition a bit better. After hitting the wall on his final fast lap, he broke his lap and there was no improvement.
Verstappen unhappy with RB20
Consequently, Verstappen told GPblog and others that he is not happy with his car: "We tried a lot of things on the car. Literally, nothing made it better. So then you're just stuck, there's not much you can do. We really tried to optimise it, but at one point, when you're stuck with that, you can see it in the second sector, we are so bad. It's just because I can't touch any kerbs, because it just upsets the car way too much. You just lose a lot of lap time, and it's just incredibly difficult."
Afterwards, Verstappen reiterates that they really tried everything at Red Bull to improve the car: "We went softer, stiffer, everything, but the car is like a go-kart. It's like I'm running without suspension, so it's just jumping around a lot, not absorbing any kerb strikes or bumps or camber changes. I mean, the last corner, I think the amount of times that I just jumped almost into the wall, it's just pretty incredible."
Verstappen on 'dramatic performance' Red Bull in Monaco
Verstappen's teammate, Sergio Perez also had a dramatic qualifying session. The three-time world champion then tells opposite Viaplay: "I think it already says a lot when you look at Checo [Perez]. He is normally always good on street circuits. If you are eighteenth [Perez's position] and sixth, that does of course indicate that we performed dramatically."
