Did Verstappen make a mistake in qualifying? 'Anyone can try!'
- Sandy van Wijngaarden
Max Verstappen is not happy with his Red Bull this weekend in Monaco. During free practice and even still in qualifying, he had to struggle quite a bit to keep his car out of the wall. Did Verstappen make a mistake? The Dutchman responds.
In Imola, Verstappen and Perez's Red Bull did not quite work as it should either. In that Grand Prix weekend, the Austrian racing stable did manage to turn the tide just in time for qualifying. In Monaco, it failed to do so. Verstappen qualified in sixth place.
It is the first time since 2008 that a Red Bull has failed to qualify inside the top five in Monaco. The three-time world champion was working on his second fast lap in Q3 until he hit the wall. After qualifying, he was asked by a reporter from the Italian branch of Sky Sports whether this was the Dutchman's first mistake this season.

Here the Dutchman disagreed. The fact that he hit the wall was not down to him, but to the erratic Red Bull. Demonstrating how difficult the car is to drive, Verstappen said the following: ''I would happily invite everyone in this paddock to drive that car and try to go faster than me.''
"I'm pushing the limit, but the Red Bull was terrible to drive this weekend. Of course, I made a mistake in turn 1, but I could also have been much further back than sixth place," added the Dutchman "I was at the limit all weekend, trying to set the best time possible, but it simply wasn't possible to do more because this weekend we are behind."
