Verstappen not sure about Monaco's right to exist: 'Sunday is pretty boring'
- Wouter Bos
Verstappen expects the field to be much closer together this season, he told reporters after the Monaco race. The Dutchman recognises that each car has its advantage, where in the past two years it all seemed to go Red Bull's way.
All weekend, with the RB20, Verstappen failed to get the most out of it. The RB20 therefore seems a lot less dominant than its predecessor. Verstappen therefore expects the season to go like a rollercoaster: "Sure. The cars are a lot closer. Some cars work better on street circuits. Some work better in fast corners, you know, low-speed corners. It will swing a bit [in the standings]."
Monaco off the calendar?
During the race, Verstappen asked for a pillow because he thought it was such a boring race. As to whether the Monaco Grand Prix should be taken off the calendar, he is not yet willing to say either: "I don't know. First of all, I would like to just try and, if there's possibilities, to maybe change a few little things. Because it will make the excitement even better, right?"
The Dutchman, however, is generally happy with the race weekend as a whole, but still has problems with the Sunday: "Because I think overall the weekend is really cool. Just the Sunday is a little bit boring, unfortunately. But the scenery is, of course, still great. But if we can find a way to race a bit better, why not? That would be probably my preferred solution."
