F1 Today Alpine civil war Red Bull line-up talk

F1 Today | Alpine civil war and Red Bull line-up talk

27 May at 21:00

It's the Monday after the 2024 Monaco Grand Prix, and there is still lots to unpack. It was Charles Leclerc's day in the principality, winning his home race for the first time in his career. And earlier today, the Monegasque was seen cycling the streets just hours after his triumph. There is joy in the Ferrari camp, but not elsewhere, especially Alpine. Will Esteban Ocon be behind the wheel in Canada? And at Red Bull, the talk is still ongoing with their 2025 driver lineup, especially after the disastrous weekend by Sergio Perez.

Alpine unravelling after eventful Monaco Grand Prix

It was a rollercoaster of emotions for Alpine during race day at Monaco. Pierre Gasly secured the first points of the 2024 season for the French team after a turbulent off-season. However, on lap one, there was contact between the teammate. Ocon was forced to retire with damage after he went for an audacious move down the inside of his teammate at Portier. There was no space for both cars to fit at the corner, meaning Gasly was forced to shut the door on Ocn and send his jumping up into the air after they both collided with each other. Ocon later claimed responsibility for this crash.

In a relationship that has had many peaks and troughs, it was another low moment for the two Frenchmen. Team principal Bruno Famin said there would be "consequences" for Ocon after the incident, and he said there would be "tough decisions made". He was then spotted talking to reserve driver Jack Doohan after the race sparking rumours that he may replace Ocon for the Canadian Grand Prix after causing the incident. Mick Schumacher is also rumoured to be on hand in case the Frenchman is replaced for the weekend in Montreal.

Gasly spoke after the incident, and he could not really believe what his teammate did after the race, saying he was "quite shocked" Ocon went for the move. There has also been talk that this incident may impact the future of Ocon in F1 itself, with Sky Sports commentator Martin Brundle saying, "It will cost Esteban heavily". There is a lot of talk about the potential of Ocon moving teams in 2025, but will he even race next time out in Canada?

Red Bull still undecided for 2025

There are still lots of rumours floating about regarding the 2025 driver lineup for Red Bull Racing. It's one of the most anticipated answers that the F1 world is waiting for, but it's a decision that Christian Horner and the Austrian team are not in any rush to make.

After all the issues that the team boss went through before the 2024 season got underway, there was plenty of talk as to whether Max Verstappen would be on the move after being there since 2016. The Dutchman looks like he will stay put for the time being, but Sergio Perez's seat is still a contentious subject. After a very disappointing weekend at the Monaco Grand Prix, where the Mexican qualified in P18 and crashed out on the first lap, there were many questions about whether Red Bull would offer Perez a contract extension, or if they would move on.

However, Horner still shows a lot of support, and it looks like there will be no decision anytime soon. "Checo's first six races he was very strong," said the team boss, and he still sees the Mexican as the best driver for the second seat at Red Bull. "We will make a decision in the fullness of time," he continued, reaffirming his point that his team will not rush a decision being made regarding their 2025 driver lineup.
